PLCnext Technology has always been developed with a strong emphasis on modularity and reusability.
It should be easy to create different instances of existing programs or integrate applications outside of PC Worx Engineer. In addition, all important settings can be changed directly on the device via transparent XML files.

This example should describe the general relation of the single configuration files and is based on a PC Worx Engineer project.

However, the basic structure is also valid in other configurations.

The pcwe.acf.config XML file contains definitions of processes, component instances, component types, and libraries of shared objects (C ++ applications).
This information is required by the ESM to load shared objects and execute component instances or "programs."

The abbreviation GDS stands for Global Data Space. This term describes the storage management system from PLCnext Technology.

The GDS manages the data exchange between the various components of a PLCnext Technology application. The exchange can take place within tasks as well as beyond task limits. The input and output data of these components is assigned to input and output ports.
The data flow is established in this way.
